QC PESO IN REVIEW: 2024

 


In the past year, the Quezon City Government has attained remarkable achievements that has made a tremendous impact in the course of history of Pres. Manuel L. Quezon’s dream city, now on its 85th year.

The Quezon City Government, under the helm of Mayor Joy Belmonte, has made great strides in making the city the epitome of transparency, good, and efficient governance with fiscal success and autonomy.

In support of the mayor’s 14-point agenda, the Quezon City Public Employment Service Office (QC PESO), led by PESO manager Rogelio L. Reyes, has achieved significant milestones in 2024, reinforcing its role as a catalyst for employment, skills development, and livelihood improvement. Here are some of the major accomplishments:


1. Job Placement and Employment Facilitation

  • Successful Job Fairs: QC PESO organized numerous job fairs throughout the year, connecting thousands of job seekers with local and international employers. These events were instrumental in addressing unemployment and underemployment in the city.
  • Partnerships with Employers: Collaborations with major industries and businesses provided diverse job opportunities for residents, from entry-level roles to specialized positions.

2. Livelihood and Skills Development Programs

  • Targeted Skills Training: QC PESO conducted training programs tailored to meet industry demands, focusing on technical and vocational skills such as automotive repair, culinary arts, and digital marketing.
  • Livelihood Kits Distribution: Partnering with DOLE, QC PESO distributed livelihood starter kits to informal workers, enabling them to start or improve small businesses.

3. Support for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs)


  • Ka-QC Waging Pamilyang OFW Awards: QC PESO recognized the contributions of OFWs and their families through an inspiring awards program that celebrated their resilience and achievements.
  • Migrant Resource Center Initiatives: The office provided pre-migration orientation, reintegration programs, and support services to OFWs and their families.

4. Social Protection and Informal Worker Empowerment


  • Informal Sector Empowerment: QC PESO registered and assisted informal workers, ensuring they had access to government programs, social security, and livelihood opportunities.
  • Community-based Employment Program: Provided temporary jobs for community development projects, offering income support to vulnerable groups.
  • Anti-Child Labor Drive: Acting secretariat, QC PESO collaborated with other city departments to implement the Task Force Sampaguita, as well as partner with other international entities and organizations.

5. Labor Market Information Services

  • Data-Driven Solutions: QC PESO utilized labor market data to guide job seekers and employers, ensuring efficient job matching and addressing skills gaps.
  • Employment Counseling: Delivered personalized career coaching and labor market insights to help residents make informed career decisions.

6. Participation in National and Regional Initiatives

  • National PESO Congress: QC PESO actively participated in the 24th National Public Employment Service Office Congress, sharing best practices and contributing to nationwide employment strategies.
  • Regional Employment Programs: Collaborated with neighboring LGUs to expand job opportunities and enhance regional economic development.

7. Empowering Vulnerable Groups

  • Youth Employment Programs: QC PESO facilitated internships and on-the-job training for fresh graduates and students, helping them transition smoothly into the workforce.
  • Support for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs): Focused initiatives ensured PWDs received training and employment opportunities tailored to their abilities.

8. Digital Transformation

  • Enhanced Online Services: QC PESO improved its online platforms for job applications, labor market information, and training registration, making services more accessible to residents.
  • Virtual Job Fairs: Launched digital job fairs to reach a broader audience, especially those who could not attend in person.

Impact and Recognition

QC PESO's efforts significantly reduced unemployment rates in Quezon City and improved the quality of life for its residents. The office received commendations for its innovative programs and was recognized as a model PESO by national agencies.

Through its comprehensive approach to employment, livelihood, and social protection, QC PESO continues to empower Quezon City residents and foster inclusive growth.
